"This piece is dedicated to you...Maka." his sharp crimson orbs peered at her soft green ones.

------------------------------------------------

"Soul!" Maka rattled, releasing her grip on Soul's jacket. He leaped into the air as his body transformed to the black and red scythe. Maka caught him, holding the edges with her dirt-covered gloves. She ran straight, dodging the witch's attacks and jumped high into the air as she swung Soul above her ready to
to slice. Unaware that she was at an open hit, the witch smacked her small, petite body, immediately smashing her to the rough floor of the road. Maka dropped Soul as her arms and neck were severely injured.

"Maka!" Soul, instantly returned to his human body before hitting the ground, sliding his shoes on the hard concrete. He rushed over to her side, seeing her tremble, in pain. Maka breathed unevenly , coughing small amounts of blood from her mouth. "Maka, you idiot! Are you okay?!" Soul asked, gently patting her back for support while she sat up, slowly.

"..." Maka hesitated, her head felt as if it was burning in flames, aching terribly. She fell back against Soul's shoulders.

"Maka!" Shit...in this position she can't fight. We gotta' get outta' here, Soul thought, gritting his sharp teeth.

"Heheh...I see you guys aren't ready to fight," the woman in the dark golden dress snarled. "Oooh. I'll tell ya' what. Since I don't feel like fighting right now, I'll let you go. But I'll be back, dearies." she winked.

"Ngg..." Soul grimaced as the horrid witch disappeared. He stood up slowly, holding Maka in his arms. He ran back, on the streets of Death City, holding Maka against his chest with a firm grip, not willing to let her go.

Maka awoke from a deep slumber, suddenly staring at the boy sitting next to her hospital bed. His eyes weren't visible from her point of view, since he was staring at the ground. She looked around, confusion took place in her green apple eyes, as she put her slender hand to her warm forehead. Laying flat against the pillow once again, she asked in a clear voice, "What happened?"
"You passed out." Soul answered, roughly. "And I couldn't protect you."

"But I'm okay. I don't need protection if I want to get stronger," Maka smiled brightly, obviously trying to cheer him up from his glum expression.

"As a weapon...I have to protect my technician."

"But I'm not hurt, so you shouldn't be worrying!" Maka reassured.

"You would be if I didn't take you here." Soul looked up at her, finally making eye contact with the girl looking straight at him with her big pale eyes.

Now noticing his brilliant red eyes were broken, Maka murmured, "You took me here, didn't you? You did protect me."

"I should have prevented that hit. Prevented you to fly across the ground, close to looking at death." he looked back down, and Maka had nothing else to do, but gaze at his smoothly sharp white hair. "...Well the doctor said you can go home today, once your ready." he changed the subject, his depressed tone not changing.
Soul gathered their stuff, placing it in Maka's book bag. They walked out in town, seeing the horrid moon smile at them. Maka slowed down, her head aching once again. Soul noticed her uncomfortable state, and put her on his back. He carried her that way to their apartment, plopping her on their couch once they got in. He cooked her a small dinner and retrieved medicine for her head ache.

"Thank you, Soul." Maka whispered, smiling up from the book she held on her lap.

"Yeah." Soul muttered, taking off his apron.  "Bookworm. What book is it this time?"

"A romance novel." Maka smiled, her nose still stuck up in her book. Soul grabbed the hard cover novel from her fingers, holding it carelessly in front of his face.

"'Chris confessed his love, when Caitlin continuously bawled her eyes out at his words. They sat on the grass, looking at the splashing colors the sun made as it shown along the horizon. And finally endured themselves in a deep, passionate-'" Soul read a random line from the book, stopping his words as he turned the page to finish it. "-kiss. Hahahaha. You really read this shit, Maka?" he snickered.

"Yes." Maka took the book from him. "It's a romance novel. A 'cool guy' like you wouldn't be very interested, correct?"

"Yap..." Soul smirked. Finally smiling unlike earlier in the hospital. Maka laughed, happy he was himself again.

"Black Star-kun...are you sure? They might be asleep by now..." Tsubaki whispered on the front door step.

"Yaahooo!" Black Star completely ignored her and barged through Maka and Soul's apartment door.

"Black Star?" Maka turned her head from her food to the visitors. "Hi, Tsubaki."

"Soul!" Black Star yelled.

"Whadd'ya' doin' here?" Soul asked.

"I'ono. Can't I come over and see my best friend?" Black Star laughed.

As they continued talking, Maka sensed a witch, thumping her shoes outside. "Where is it...."

"Maka! Are you alright?! You idiot! Your practically injured, don't run out like that-!" Soul retorted running after her as a claw of a hand smacked him to the ground. He looked up, finding the witch they were fighting before. "Shit...you bastard!" He stood up, swinging his arms to dust the dirt off his clothes. "Maka! What's with you?!" Soul yelled, clutching her shoulder. When she didn't respond, he pulled her, as she fell back on him. He caught her, screaming, "What did you do to her?!"

"The transformation is taking place..." the witch grinned. "Soon, she'll be controlled by me."

"Shit."

Maka stood straight up, her eyes became completely black as she started throwing punches at Soul.

"Maka!" he dodged every shot, avoiding to fight her. "Stop!"

"It's no use..." the witch hoffed, swaying in the air.

"You bastard!" Soul muttered, gravely, as he catched Maka's fists. "Maka, get a hold of yourself!"

"Yahoo! This'll be fun, eh, Tsubaki?" Black Star grinned, running to the witch and striking numerous amounts of strikes, carelessly. "Soul, I'll work on this witch! You find a way to get Maka back!"

"...right." Soul continued blocking her attacks, as she fell to the ground. At a sudden blink, he was in a dark room he was used to. Where stringy jazz music played out of tune, and he was in a pinstripe tuxedo, finding a small creature pulling someone through the curtains. "...Maka Why're you here?...again."

"That's not really a way to greet a guest, dontcha' think?" she was formally dressed in a dark Lolita dress she had worn before and small black heels. They joined hands, almost instantly, lacing their fingers with each others' as the small evil looking creature played a jazz record. They danced, once again Soul leading her, preventing her to step on his foot. "I'm here because this is the only way I can be myself."

"I'll bring you back." He was determined to.

"How are you so sure?" Maka asked, as they danced slowly to the jazzy music on the record player.

"It's my job as a weapon to protect my technician." he answered simply. She avoided eye contact after that remark. "Huh? What's wrong?"

"...nothing." Maka shut her eyes as the old music let her flow with him in small movements. In a slow stop, Soul lead her across the dark marble floor to the corner of the room, where the piano stood. He sat down, gently while she stood next to the creme coloured keys.

"Before...I was so sure, it was my job to protect you at all time. But now I understand why I am so determined to do so. This piece is dedicated to you...Maka." his sharp crimson orbs peered at her soft green ones. Soul gazed back down in the dark and light keys, allowing his fingers to press softly above them, letting the music take him away in desiring pleasure. He let his hands fly at different amounts of speed atop of the melodious piano, creating a brilliant tune Maka adored in many ways. When Soul stopped, he looked up at the wide-eyed girl and chuckled.

"Thank you..." she hesitated, sworn her heart skipped a strong beat. "...Soul."
Soul shut his eyes for atleast a minute, whispering steadily, "I will always be with you...Maka. Even if you endure in pain. Even if you become a monster. I will always bring you back." he opened his eyes, taking a long breath and discovered the rain pounding on his white hair while he was holding the fist of the Maka he didn't know. "Maka!" he growled, grabbing the collar of her black slim jacket, tightening his grip and her black eyes held no emotion whatsoever. The eyes teared him apart, as he grasped her more carelessly, trying everything he could to snap her out of it. He pushed his lips to hers, suddenly as the rain poured harder on them. He pulled her away from him, letting go of the grip he held on her jacket. She fell back onto the ground as soul murmured her name.
Maka's head lay on his lap as her black eyes began to fade back to her normal pale broken lime coloured eyes. She awoke a few minutes later, breathing normally. Her eyes opened and instantly was staring at his deep red orbs. "Thank you...Soul." He helped her up, transforming into a scythe for Maka to hold in her wet glove. "Let's kick ass." she grinned.

"You really are the best partner." he smirked. Maka pushed Black Star and Tsubaki away, and willingly put all her power in her right arm as it sliced through the air, deeply cutting the witch in half.

"I could have done that..." Black Star retorted. "I just let you defeat'er."

"Heheh." Maka laughed, letting Soul transform back into his human form.

When Soul and Maka had said their good-byes  and entered their apartment after a long day, Soul grinned, clenching his teeth, "I told you I'd save you."

"...yeah." Maka smiled. "But...how did you?"

"...you don't remember?"
Maka shook her head.

"Heheh...very...emotionally." he chuckled. "Do you remember the dance?"

"Dance...no." she looked at him curiously. "Your quite strange sometimes..."

"At least I don't have bad memory."

"Maka...CHOP!" she bashed her romance novel onto his head. "Maybe being controlled...just caused me to forget." she sighed.

"I can't believe I missed your old self." he muttered, annoyed.

"Huh?"

"Nothing."

Maka turned around, eagerly, and crept to her bedroom, as Soul heard her humming the piece he played on the piano. He smiled softly, whistling the tune to himself.
